Such a hard time, with beautiful Gretel. The whole thing about life for hens

And roosters is so wrong

And I really am so sorry about what happened. Her life mattered and her end was significant and a loss. I feel sure that your presence was a comfort🥰🙏 but it is so hard that there was a total lack of sensitivity for her and for you.

What a beautiful little rooster, and it says so much about personality that you have made arrangements to try and keep everyone happy. Hoping the little one in the tree comes through! What a lot going on, sending hugs as you mourn the loss of a wonderful girl, and at the same time try to wrangle everything else.

Oh, my heart. ❤️ Gretel mattered. She was loved, she was seen, and because of you she knew a life of kindness that so many hens never get to experience. I hope, in time, the memory that stays with you isn’t that final afternoon, but all those ordinary moments of sitting beside each other while she quietly got on with being Gretel. X

I’m so sorry for your last experience with Gretel, and the lack of sensitivity that was shown. What a beautiful story Gretel has since she arrived at your special haven, I have no doubt that her last few years were her absolute best. Having chickens myself I know what special little characters they are.

I can’t believe how anyone could just dump/abandon an animal, it doesn’t matter the species. It’s heartbreaking that people feel they can just dispose of them like discarded trash. There needs to be tighter laws — worldwide, in place. Animals are conscious beings that feel. They are no less equal to us.

Thank you for the wonderful work you do, I can understand how hard it is to have to turn away someone. Your new little John really is dashing.

Little John's bright eye melts my heart. And the need is so great, thank you for trying to meet it and knowing when to say no when you're at your limit. It's a hard thing to do, but I admire it. May more human hearts open to the chickens of our world. If we simply take them off our dinner plates, the need (and suffering) will lessen. <3
