Meet the Residents of the Hen Haven - Volume 1
Photos of some of our beautiful residents, with audio if you'd rather listen than read.
Hello friends,
Today I wanted to do something a little different.
I’ve been writing some longer pieces lately and I know not everyone has time to sit down and read them. So this week, no big article. Just 10 photos I took this morning of some of the residents, because sometimes you just need to look at some beautiful chickens. And for me, sitting with my feathered family members is one of the great joys of running a sanctuary. They are the moments that make all the hard bits feel so worthwhile.
Quick thing before you scroll. From today, I’ve started adding audio to my posts, so if you’d rather listen than read, you can hit play at the top. If you're reading this in your email, just tap the title to open the post and you'll see the play button.
This article is a little different, in that I am not reading the post. Instead, I chat a bit about each of the little ones in the photos and their stories. You can even listen to it sped up if you like. It’s completely optional, but if you want something for the background whilst you’re doing the dishes or feeding your own animals, it’s there. I’ll be doing this for the Sunday posts and reading longer articles going forward too, so if you are busy you can listen to me read the article.
Right. On to the important ones… The Animals!

Thank you for being here and for all your support lately. If you’d like to help us keep looking after these beautiful faces, you can donate here: https://henrescue.org/donate or you can become a paid subscriber on Substack.
Or if you have donated recently or are already a hen hero… thank you!
Love, Catherine x

Just look at the beauty of their feathers, the detail is stunning. For those who have not been well, I hope they will blossom, the roosters are so magnificent. Thank you for what you are doing, I can only imagine the sounds they are making, as they settle into better lives🙏
Catherine, I just listened to your first audio newsletter. What an absolute treat. It was so nice to hear the joy in your voice when you talked about your feathered Hen Haven family.
