A huge amount of things to think about- it is true that this world is very far from perfect and balance is so hard to achieve, but we can be thoughtful and do the best we are able.
How terrible about the so called free range situation. For some years I have participated in an annual survey about the egg “industry” and it consists of a number of statements including that hens are “working animals” so they don’t have the same consideration as pets. The fact that this can even be thought of is sickening to me.
Thank you for all the wonderful things that are happening and of course our thoughts turn to beautiful Gretel and to you as you sit with her and weigh up her quality of life. Bless you all❤️❤️❤️

I know exactly how you feel hon, I feel the same things you do. I’ve stopped looking at any sad stories on Facebook or online because it’s just too hard for me to witness. It’s not that I’m purposely looking the other way, it’s that I feel so connected to any and all animals on this earth that the thought of them being in pain or worse just sends me spiraling. I feed all the wild birds who visit my backyard and it makes me feel a bit better to know that I’m doing something for them. This world and its way of thinking about animals as just “products” can be overwhelming at times, but just know that you and David are doing the best you can do with what you have. I had to grin about your efforts to tell the hawks to find somewhere else to hunt, I do that myself when the pigeons try to eat the food I put out for the Ibis. The neighbours must think I’m crazy running around yelling at the pigeons to get away from the Ibis’s food and go eat their own, but I’m over anybody thinking I’m strange (including the council who tell me not to feed the wild birds). I just tell them “I can do whatever I want in my own backyard and will keep doing so, so be on your way Jack” so I think they have got the message now lol.
Take care sweetheart and remember to take time for yourself as well. ❤️
Cage free is less suffering but only by increments. Thank you for showing us so clearly that free range still exploits precious animals for profit and that the only way to prevent animals from suffering is by choosing not to eat them. <3
